"A politician thinks of the next election; a statesman thinks of the next generation." -James Freeman Clarke

This quote has more significance today than ever before in the history of this nation. The time has come for the people of this district to vote, not for any particular party, but rather for the person. The time has come to elect representatives who are of the people and for the people. As Illinoisans, we have had the great misfortune of seeing just how adversely corrupt politicians can affect our ways of living. It's time to put an end to this.

For the past 30 years, the 17th Congressional District and the state of Illinois have been hemorrhaging jobs. If businesses are not closing down, they are downsizing and cutting back. Not only have jobs been fleeing the district, but so are the people. Out of 435 congressional districts, the 17th District ranks 25th in population decline. This is nothing to be proud of, and the people of the 17th District deserve better.

The Midwest is home to the hardest working people in America. There are no excuses for these staggering job losses. Politicians continue to tax businesses out of existence, forcing hard workers out of a job and out of our state. Politicians are so backwards that they decrease the cost of business in other countries with free trade agreements, while at the same time, they increase the cost of business in our own by raising the taxes. At 39 percent, the U.S. has the 2nd highest corporate tax rate in the world. America can do better.

Why does the cost of business in the Midwest matter? It matters because it translates into either job creation or job losses. Businesses are not going to stay in the Midwest if it is cheaper to operate in another country or state. When we witness a business fail, we witness workers losing their jobs. For the most part, when we witness a business succeed, then we witness workers succeeding. We need to make it easier for businesses to get started and grow. Instead of being focused on extending unemployment benefits, we need to focus on creating jobs. Congress should be focused on giving a 'leg-up' not a 'hand-out.'

We can no longer 'hope' that our current representative will magically change overnight. We cannot afford to trust the same old empty promises. We want jobs, growth, and responsible government. We don't need more taxes, spending, and government control. If we are ever going to get reform, growth, and more jobs to our district, then we need to elect new leaders.

I am running for Congress because I want to bring jobs, reform, and representation back to our district. Please join our movement to bring jobs back to the district. Also please sign up to volunteer with mailings, door to door, phone calls or anything else that you may be good at. Feel free to contact our campaign if you have any questions at all.
